Created `audits/<target>/<date>_<slug>.md` at the archive root (commit `fa4b2fb`, 2026-07-21) as the
permanent home for independent audits **of the archive itself** — the museum, the generator, the
sync mechanism. Currently just `audits/museum/`. `audits/README.md` documents the convention.
**Why:** an independent Claude-session audit of the museum was written only to a session scratchpad
and nearly evaporated when that session ended — the owner's directive was "yes, all audits should go
in from now on, and organized." Filed the stranded report at
`audits/museum/2026-07-21_independent-audit.md`; it's the source document behind commit `e1fa0ab`
("fix 5 self-audit defects") — 5 of its 7 findings were fixed there, gallery-mat contrast and the
two-ship-dates item were left open and still are as of filing.
**How to apply:** when a future audit (of this archive, not the app) is produced, file it under
`audits/<target>/`, not in `planning/`. `planning/<version>/audits/` stays reserved for audits of the
RobCo U.O.S. app itself, synced in verbatim from the app repo — do not put archive-native audits
there, it would silently diverge the mirror. See [[museum-generator-2026-07-21-implementation]] and
[[museum-audit-fixes-2026-07-21]] for the museum state this first audit was checking.
**Known gap, deliberately left open:** `audits/` has no `classify()` entry in `museum/generate.mjs`
yet, so it will render as UNCLASSIFIED next time the museum regenerates at a release. Per the
archive's rule against touching `generate.mjs` without explicit instruction, this was documented
rather than fixed — a future session told explicitly to wire it in should add a classify() branch for
`parts[0] === 'audits'`, then decide whether audits get their own museum room or ride along with an
existing one (the same design question `bugs/` and `memory-audit/` each had to answer).
**For QUEUE.md (app repo) — not filed there by this session, a separate pass owns that file:** record
the standing rule "audits are filed in `_RobCo-Archive/audits/<target>/`, not `planning/`" so Dispatch
picks it up, plus the open `classify()` follow-up above.
